general permit modifications to water quality division

To simplify implementation of the new Arizona Surface Water Protection Program (SWPP), ADEQ will modify the existing AZPDES General Permits (GPs) to extend coverage to state-listed waters. Additionally, our goal is to have the modified permits finalized by mid-August.

An informational webinar will be held on Thursday, June 3, 11 a.m. – noon. The purpose of this webinar is to inform permit holders of the general permit modifications in addition to opportunity for public comment. Click on this link to register for the webinar: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/rt/2572786155850661646. Subsequently, after you register, you will receive an email with a link to the meeting.

Modified permits include the following:

  • Construction General Permit (CGP)
  • Multi Sector General Permit (MSGP)
  • Mining Multi Sector General Permit (Mining MSGP)
  • De Minimis General Permit (DMGP)
  • Phase II MS4 General Permit (MS4 GP)
  • Pesticides General Permit (PGP)

No other modification conditions or requirements are changing with the exception of the small MS4 general permit, which is currently being revised as part of reissuance as well as will be included in this public comment period.

Application for a permit under the modified GP will not change; the myDEQ process will remain the same. Also, existing permit holders will not need to apply for a new permit.

In addition, for more information on general permit modifications , please contact our Program Manager Dr. David Lelsz at Lelsz.David@azdeq.gov.

Finally, we are looking forward to having you join us,

Justin Bern
Manager of Surface Water Protection
