The Gift of Clean Air

(PHOENIX) ADEQ officials announced today the kick-off of its Give the Gift of Clean Air holiday air quality campaign. The quality of the air we breathe is more important than ever. All Arizonans deserve the cleanest air possible — especially those with compromised health.

“Clean air is essential for a healthy life and there is no greater gift this holiday season than the gift of clean air,” said ADEQ Air Quality Division Director Daniel Czecholinski. “As cooler weather sets in for the holiday season, wood burning in fireplaces, outdoor fire pits and even fireworks can have a big impact on our air quality, that of our neighbors, and for some people, their health.”

The science linking air pollution to negative health effects is extensive. Additionally, it is continuing to grow as researchers study its impacts related to COVID-19. Furthermore, this science and research underscores the importance of continuing efforts to maintain and improve air quality:

People most vulnerable to air pollution particularly include children, older adults, adults exercising outdoors, people with heart or lung disease and those who suffer from asthma and bronchitis or other respiratory issues.

How Can You Help?

“There are some easy, but effective actions we all can take to improve air quality for ourselves and our neighbors,” Czecholinski added. “Replacing charcoal grills, wood burning fireplaces and firepits, and lawn mower and lawn equipment with cleaner burning alternatives can make a positive difference in improving our air quality during the holiday season and all year long.”

This holiday season, ADEQ invites Arizona residents and visitors to follow its social media channels to especially stay air aware, and learn about and share how to Give the Gift of Clean Air:
