The EPA is making significant changes to its regulations concerning PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), often referred to as “forever chemicals”. While the agency finalized a rule in 2024 setting enforceable limits for PFOA and PFOS in drinking water and requiring public water systems to comply by 2029, it is now proposing to extend the compliance deadline for these two chemicals to 2031 and reconsider the limits for other PFAS chemicals.
