ADEQ to celebrate Arizona Pollution Prevention (P2) Week showcasing program achievements and business innovations in the evolving landscape September 21-27, 2020 PHOENIX (September 17, 2020) – To recognize pollution prevention solutions that both enhance efficiency in manufacturing and help conserve Arizona’s natural resources for future generations, Governor Doug Ducey has declared September 21-27, 2020 as Arizona Pollution Prevention Week. Arizona Pollution Prevention Week Governor’s Proclamation | View > During P2 Week, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) will celebrate by sharing recent business innovations in the evolving landscape, which are benefiting Arizona’s manufacturers, communities and environment. “Our continued commitment, innovations and success in preventing pollution are protecting and enhancing public health and the environment in Arizona,” said Laura Malone, ADEQ Waste Programs Division Director. “29 years and going strong, ADEQ’s Pollution Prevention Program makes good sense for businesses and plays an important role in achieving greater environmental protection through eliminating pollution sources and minimizing the need for costly controls and cleanups.” Since it began in 1991, ADEQ’s P2 Program resulted in the following achievements: +Conserved more than 4 billion gallons of water | enough water to supply more than 72,000 Arizona households for a year +Prevented the use of nearly 25,000 tons of toxic substances +Diverted more than 663,000 tons of solid waste +Prevented generation of more than 45,000 tons of hazardous waste +Saved close to 1.5 billion kilowatt hours of electrical energy | enough energy to power close to 120,000 Arizona households for a year +Prevented creation of more than 900 million gallons of wastewater +Led to a net cost-savings of over $392 million for participants ADEQ Pollution Prevention Program | Learn More > Tell us how you are preventing pollution with #P2Week2020 on social media.
